There’s no such thing as a bad review – is that right? I think so. It hurts, to read a less than glowing report on my writing. But then I remember that I don’t like everything I read, watch, eat, see, smell or hear. Then why would I expect everyone to like my stories?
I’ve only been writing for three years, and I’m still building my brand. Witchy cozy mystery vibes and children’s books. I don’t want to just write in one genre, but I also want to get better at what I do.
The best thing I read the other day, was a note from a beta reader who told me she had noticed an improvement in my writing. I was so happy to read that. She was talking about Daisy’s Magical Nursery – Book 2 in my Blackwood Women series. Daisy’s book released on Friday.
Watch Out for the Blackwood Women is book 1 in this series. I’m already 10 000 words into book 3, even though I’d not planned to write it straight away. The story is just spilling out onto the page.
My point of view is that reviews are an opportunity to learn. As I said, not everyone likes the same things, and this also applies to books. I don’t read and enjoy every genre. I’m learning every time I plan, write and edit each of my stories. Learning, improving, developing, and changing aspects of my work are all a part of life.
On social media authors often run takeovers and allow other authors to post. I’ve participated in these over the last couple of years. I considered stopping, not being involved. It’s a little bit of work, and I’m never sure if anyone reads my books. But as it turns out I have participated in a couple of these takeovers this weekend. It is time consuming, but it’s fun, meeting new people – readers and authors.
If you are reading my words for the first time – hello, welcome, it’s nice to meet you.
Have a wonderful happy bookish week everyone.
