If I told you today was Halloween, would you think I was crazy? Here in the Southern Hemisphere, it is 30 April 2025, we are well into Autumn, and it’s the witch festival of Samhain, or All Hallow’s Eve, Halloween. The 30 April in the Northern Hemisphere is Beltane, as spring well and truly arrives in full splendour. In my part of the world, the days are cooling, the leaves are turning, and we celebrate our harvests.

At least all the cool, organised witches celebrate the harvest festival by collecting their herbs, fruits and vegetables for winter storage. They bake up a storm and celebrate with a feast to share with their loved ones. It’s a time for connection with those from beyond the grave, as the veil between the worlds thins during the few days around this seasonal celebration.

There are other activities we could immerse ourselves in as winter temporarily takes hold of our lives. Creating an altar, spending time in reflection, setting intentions, or using runes, tarot, pendulum or other divination tool to plan our next few months are fun ways to celebrate. We don’t have to do all, or any of that in one day. That would be exhausting. Much better to spread the festivities over a few days, as the mood takes us and time allows.

I love the synergy that we experienced the dark moon a couple of nights ago. A new month tomorrow. It’s all connected, something that women of old instinctively knew. I’d love one day, to be that organised, that witchy. Happy Halloween Witches.
