I’ve nearly finished writing a story tentatively titled “Watch Out for the Blackwood Women.” It started out to be a story about the Christmas curse, but it morphed into something else. I find quite often that the plot, story and characters have a mind of their own. New characters, a new threat, a new love, and magic. Always magic.
I have a rough working plan for my writing in 2026. Goals I want to achieve, words I want to write, and books I want out into the world. Like most things I do, my plans tend to go haywire when I get distracted. The plan will be there, to refer to, when I veer off track.
For the last few years, I’ve chosen a word for the year, to help motivate me. I normally start off strong, but then I forget to check back in on how I’m going as the year progresses. Clarity, vitality, focus, align – are a few of the motivating words I’ve chosen. Do I choose a word this year, or let it slide? Honestly, if I’d not seen that an author friend of mine had chosen her word, I wouldn’t have bothered.
My word has to be one that resonates with me, challenges, and motivates me. For 2026 the word that will be percolating in the background of all I do is (drum roll please) – Magic.
Magic can mean so many things, depending on who we are. Elemental magic, using spirit, air, earth, water, fire, to change the world around us. Setting intentions, being grateful, paying attention to nature.
Do I include spells, cauldrons, candles, crystals, essential oils and potions – sure why not? In my books I’ll be exploring these magical, witchy items and much more.
For example, have you ever thought about the humble cup of tea being a magical tool? Stir clockwise to bring things towards you. Stir counter-clockwise to repel things from you. Use moon water for extra powerful tea spells.
May 2026 be full of magic everywhere you look!
