It’s December. That time of year when people start talk about winding down towards the end of the year. Does this behaviour occur in the northern hemisphere or is it specific to Australia where the temps are rising and people are looking forward to a summer holiday?
You know I’m not a fan of Christmas, because of the Christmas curse (losing my kids, it’s a long story if you don’t already know it), but I’ve been thinking. There are many aspects to Christmas, not just the family get togethers portrayed in books and movies. It’s about the birth of baby Jesus. It’s about Christianity. There’s St Nicholas. Gift giving to those we love, and those less fortunate. There are many complex elements to the twenty-four days of December leading up to Christmas Day.
I could make it as positive as possible. I’m thinking of baking some Christmas sweet treats, and maybe some Christmas craft. I do have a couple of Christmas shirts to wear at work.
Speaking of work…the retail establishment where I work has had decorations up for a month now. Today they started playing Christmas carols. I’d better either get into the spirit of the season or learn to tone out the music.
The next four days can be horrible for people; and I’m not referring to me. There are so many expectations, stress, and anxiety around the silly season. Instead of the twelve days of Christmas, I’m suggested something different. Twenty-four days of Soul Shielding (self-preservation). Find one thing each day to bring calm and peace into our lives. Let’s get creative. I’d love to hear your thoughts – Soul Shielding: the ancient art of protecting one’s inner essence from harm.
Happy December!
