I should track the phases of the moon. I wish there was an inbuilt radar where I would know that the full moon was approaching and to protect myself accordingly.

Yes, I could stand outside for a few minutes each night and locate her. That way I’d know where she was up to in the sky.

Scientific research may be scarce, but the full moon sends people into a head spin of whirling emotions. Not just me. There are more crimes, hospital visits, and accidents during the full moon phase. Is it just that the brightness of her face during this phase means some people can’t sleep and so are tired and more emotional and anxious?

As a new moon sits quietly in the sky, I’m ready to start new projects. It’s a clean slate and new beginnings. Planting seeds, creating new stories or craft projects. All is well in my world.

When she moves into her waxing moon phase, I’m more motivated and energised. Determined to get things done. So many ideas running around in my head.

Then the full moon arrives and I hit a wall. Doubting, anxiety, angst, regret, imposter syndrome. Still full of energy, but restless. What do I do with myself?

Slowly the moon wanes. A time of release and winding down, before the next cycle begins.

The exhaustion and tiredness, that’s always there, heightened during the full moon phase. Is it a symptom of the busy-ness of modern-day existence? Scientific proof not-with-standing, the tides are linked to the moon phases. As are weather patterns, the growth of plants, and even the behaviour of animals.

Our ancestors planned and worked by the phases of the moon, the seasons, the weather and the night sky. A wisdom lost to many in this age with easy access to information and technology.

Restless, emotional, out of sorts, nervous energy – too much coffee and sugar, not enough sleep, or is the moon goddess messing with us?
