I’ve always been awkward in social situations. I swear it’s getting worse as I get older. I’m all good in small groups, with the few people I know, but pop me at a club or a pub and I’d rather sit with my laptop and type.

It’s not that I’m shy, I’d happily talk about how I feel, or my life, or funny anecdotes. I can share stories as much as anyone else. I’ve survived a lot of stuff. I honestly think it’s more fun to sit and listen to other people talking. I can do that from a little chair in the corner.

My latest main character, Scarlett Nightly has tried so hard to put the past behind her. But when an elderly man walks into the library where she works and utters the name of the man who stole her baby, the fear and grief she buried years ago come rushing back.

Can she overcome the terror that once held her captive—and finally find her son?

Scarlett faces a devastating choice: run again or stay and fight for the truth. It took years to claw her way out of depression, to step beyond the safety of her cottage, and to find a job she loves. Only one person truly knows what she’s been through—Archie, her best friend and the owner of the local café.

But this time, sheer willpower may not be enough.

Broken Lies releases at the end of the month, the release date is 28 July 25.
