I’m not crazy!
Have you heard of anyone being referred to as an empath?
If we look at the meanings of the words – empath and empathy, we do see some similarities and subtle differences.
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, while being an empath implies a heightened sensitivity and capacity to feel and even absorb others’ emotions. Empaths often experience the feelings of others as if they were their own. Emotions, feelings, and any physical imbalances as well.
Before I realised I was an empath, I didn’t think I had any control over the panic attacks and mood swings I’d suffer after such simple tasks like taking the kids shopping, attending a school function, or even a family get together. I’d push through it, being grumpy, frustrated, but thinking I was in control. I look back now, and I was a bumbling mess of anxiety, and I had bouts of ill health. Not major health issues – stomach cramps, headaches, that sort of thing. I could have handled so many situations more effectively had I known about empaths.
I still forget from time to time. Like being back in a customer facing role, where for up to nine hours a day I interact with so many different people. People who are sick, sad, angry, happy – you name it, I could experience it all, if I forget to take some simple steps.
I’m not just talking about staying hydrated, eating well, and getting enough sleep, although those factors do matter.
Protecting my energy – is not as woowoo as it wounds. Picture a shield, cloak, or jacket, scarf, etc around you, protecting you, deflecting other people’s energy, health, and emotions. If you can, it pays to remember every time you are going out where there will be people, even people you know and love.
Having quite time at the end of the day is super helpful as well. Also, remember that being an empath is a blessing, not a curse.
Happy Monday – may this new week be full of blessings, fun, love, happy times and time to relax as well. It’s release week for book three of my Spirit Town cozy witchy mystery series – The Ghosts of Spirit Town. Woohoo!
