Using candles for magic – it’s been around for ages, because they are easy to use. As we focus on the flame, our intention merges with the fire element to bring to us what we desire. Birthday candles are an inexpensive alternative to the other small coloured candles and come in an extensive range of colours. They are a great size for one use spellcraft.

Some spells using candles are complex, others are simple, suitable for beginners to the craft. You choose your spell and tools based on what it is you are wanting to manifest.

Fire is purifying, energising, releases pent up, stagnant, old energy and connects the spiritual world to the physical world.

Colour Magic – applies not just to candles, but the clothes we wear and the way we decorate our homes, cars and offices.

White is for attracting, purifying, cleansing, protection, balancing, clarity, divination, healing, higher self, peace, truth. White is also considered an all purpose candle, used to replace other colours when they’re not available.

Black – banishing, binding, absorbing, acceptance, anger, endings, justice, loss, release, grief, negativity, patience, persistence, strength.

Red – love, attraction, courage, assertiveness, business, creativity, energy, loyalty, motivation, passion, romance, power, action, change.

Yellow – career, communication, friendship, learning, money, business, happiness, intellect, inspiration, intuition, knowledge, wisdom, travel.

Pink – acceptance, affection, compassion, reconciliation, children, healing, fidelity, family, friendship, kindness, love, luck, nurturing.

Green – abundance, nature, healing, harmony, change, creativity, family, environment, nurture, partners, peace, prosperity

Purple – transformation, divination, prosperity, enlightenment, spiritual development, psychic protection, emotions, imagination, independence, power

Orange – adaptable, ambition, celebration, confidence, creative, courage, discipline, freedom, goals, justice, positivity, strength, travel

Blue – protection, dreams, divine wisdom, honesty, trust, communication sleep, obstacles, leadership.

Brown – material matters, endurance, animals, balance, courage, grounding, lost objects, stability,

Silver – moon and star magic, goddess, awareness, healing, intuition, divination, money psychic powers, purification, success

Gold – abundance, fame, fortune, ambition, money, happiness, creativity, power, sun energy and sun god.

How we use all the elements in candle magic:

1. Air: Oxygen feeds and fans the candle flame
2. Earth: Solid wax forms the body of the candle
3. Water: Melting wax represents the fluid elemental state
4. Fire: The flame sparks and blazes
5. Spirit: Our spirit mixes with the spirit of the flame, and our ancestors and guides
