December – a time of exhaustion, festivities and events, family get togethers, work obligations and stifling thirty eight degree heat. Every second person is feeling stressed, tired or run down and worn out.
It is when we are exhausted, physically and mentally, that our bodies defence – our immune system is compromised. We experience irritating illnesses; colds, the flu, covid, gastro, hay fever and allergies, acne, skin conditions, stomach aches and body aches and pains. Our mental wellbeing can suffer; we feel blah for no apparent reason. Anxiety and sadness, frustration and even agitation can set in.
It is probably not realistic to walk away from all the stressors and high expectations that we set for ourselves. There are some options for taking control and support ourselves and our loved ones.
- Write a list of what absolutely has to be done, and a realistic timeframe.
- Buy stuff only if you absolutely have to, otherwise use up what you have at home.
- Limit contact with people who exhaust you.
- Spend time each day on an activity you enjoy.
- Choose healthy food options and drink water.
Why do I love jigsaws? Because for me, they are the one thing that takes my focus away from my huge to do list. I have been crazily trying to get everything done inside and outside; not for Christmas, just because my list is that big. It drives hubby crazy. The only way to reset me and stop me wanting to get things done NOW is to put a jigsaw of five hundred pieces or more in front of me. I will moan about how difficult it is, but I will stay there in front of it until it is completed.
