As winter approaches, the colder days, it is time to revisit how we care for ourselves. I think it is important to make an effort, to care for body, soul and mind. When one of these is out of balance or neglected we start to feel unwell. This can manifest in a variety of ways. Life can get in the way, we can make excuses, we are too busy to look after ourselves.

Rather than getting run down, stressed or unwell, striving to find a health routine that works for us, a simple, easy, low fuss way of caring for us is vital. I sometimes struggle with this too, there is just so much to do. I break it down into small chunks. I figure if I focus on my morning routine, before the day gets busy, I have more chance of remembering and doing it, rather than during the day or the evening.

My morning daily Health Routine –some of which I do, some of which I aspire to do. The key is to keep trying, to keep your own health and wellness as number 1 priority no matter what. For those of us who support and care for others, we can’t help others if we are not physically and mentally okay ourselves.

Morning

  • Cup of coffee
  • Gratitude – three things at least that I am grateful for
  • Journal writing
  • Read a chapter of a book
  • Apply moisteriser and essential oils after shower
  • Home made juice – at least 3 fruits and 3 veg
  • Small bowl of cholesterol lowering cereal with almonds or walnuts
  • Diffuse essential oils
  • Spend five minutes in reflection / meditation
  • Walk outside, in the garden
  • A thirty minute workout
  • Big glass of water with a slice of lemon

I don’t end up doing all these each and every day, but I do try to. The key is to strive to be the best version of ourselves. To know what we want to do and make time for us.
