It’s a new year, a year to focus on creativity, prosperity, relationships and physical and mental health and wellbeing. Stay tuned for a series of posts which are aimed to provide you with tips for living a healthy life. The posts will encompass many aspects from physical and mental health, low tox living, plants and foods that heal, essential oils, crystals and chakras and much more.
The posts will follow an order that makes sense in my head, and will be posted each Monday to Friday on my Angel Wisdom page and in our Angel Oils with Sarah group.
If you have any specific health questions, wellbeing questions or similar, just send me a message, reply to this post, or any of my posts, or set up a time to chat by following this link: bit.ly/SarahLewinDiscoveryCall
As well as this Essential Education as I am calling these series of posts, I am going to post an offer each Friday. Unlike 2020, these offers will only last a week.
For those who aren’t on facebook and / or anyone who wants to receive this same information via email, I will be sending out the Essential Education via email as well.
Product Spotlight: Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil. One of our newest oils, when I first diffused this last year I was hooked. The fresh burst of lemon eucalypt – there was something about it…it cleanses and freshes and definitely lifts moods and emotions.

#a couple of drops into palms, rub together and inhale to brighten the day
#a couple of drops to our skin cleaner

Essential Education #1 – Using Essential Oils
There are three main ways to use therapeutic grade, pure, certified essential oils, no matter what brand you choose, please pick one where the oils are pure. The purity means they will help support us (I can’t say heal us, that wouldn’t be compliant). The best way to use our essential oils depends on what we are trying to achieve, what support we need.
Diffuse – to freshen and purify, to calm moods and emotions, boost energies
Topically – to ease muscle aches and pains, to repair, soothe skin, blemishes, itches and bites
Internally – immune health, overall health, physical, digestive, emotional
Because our oils are potent, we only need to use a little, a couple of drops, in the diffuser, or diluted with a carrier oil such a fractionated coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba oil…and applied topically. For children and those with sensitive skin, only add a drop to the carrier oil. Taken internally we need to use even less, i.e. a drop.
Not everyone likes the idea of ingesting essential oils. We can benefit from their support topically and by diffusing as well as when taken internally, so how you use the oils is entirely up to you.
Essential Education #2 – Using a diffuser
Diffusing essential oils is one of the ways we can support ourselves and our families. Remember our essential oils are medicinal, and can be used to support us physically, emotionally, mentally, and also to cleanse and purify our surroundings.
Our diffusers have timers built in, i.e. they run for a set amount of time. We can change this, simply by turning off the diffuser if we feel it has been running long enough, or if we have small children or pets. A general guide is on for 20 minutes at a time.
If diffusing with animals, try to have a window or door open, to allow air flow, and as above feel free to turn off the diffuser if you feel it has been on for long enough.
Before bed, when we are diffusing lavender, or other oils for calming and sleep, diffuse the oils for 30 minutes before going to bed, and then after about 20 minutes in bed, turn off the diffuser.
Our oils are therapeutic, and so we don’t need to use a lot of oils when we diffuse. Even if we can not smell the oils they are still working and effective. Six oils in the diffuser is enough. I tend to diffuse just one oil or maybe two together. I find I like the simplicity of this practice. I know other people who make diffuser blends with 4 or more oils, but I find that takes too much brain power – for me simple is better.
Try adding a few drops of essential oil to your palms and cup them over your nose while you inhale deeply. This is an easy technique especially when you’re on the go. Or, add some drops of oil to a glass spray-bottle with water and spritz around the room. The combinations of essential oils you can diffuse are endless. More about that tomorrow.
Essential Education #3 – Cleaning your diffuser and diffuser blends
General cleaning of our diffuser – after every use, empty any leftover water and start with fresh water each time we are going to diffuse. Wiping the inside with a cloth or paper towel is also a good idea.
For optimum benefits, it is a good idea to deep clean our diffuser every month.
- Fill your diffuser half way with clean water.
- Add 10 drops of white vinegar.
- Let the diffuser run for about 5 minutes to allow the water-vinegar mixture to disperse throughout the unit and clean it.
- Drain the diffuser completely.
We can diffuse for cleansing, emotional support, immune support, to lift moods, to focus, the list is almost endless. If we follow our intuition we will know which oils to diffuse. If you would like some more suggestions of oils to diffuse, please let me know.
Other diffuser blend ideas – citrus – cleansing and uplifting moods, lavenders – rest and calm, emotional and mood management oils for specific moods and emotions, peppermint or rosemary for focus and brain power
Essential Education #4 – Stay hydrated – drink water
Our bodies are made up of over 70% water. It is important we make sure we drink enough water each day. Two litres of water, and don’t count tea, coffee or soft drink in the amount of liquid we ingest in that two litres. A dear friend of ours, who has never drunk much water at all, is now suffering some health discomfort because of this, and has finally decided to listen and drink some water every day. Hopefully he can stick to this and his body can adapt to having more water and balance out some of the issues he is having.
Do you ever get a headache, after a particularly warm day or a day of activity and then realise it may be because you haven’t drunk enough water? I do get this occasionally, but on most days I drink at least two litres throughout the day.
We can add a slice of lemon, lime or other citrus fruit, or a drop of lemon or lime essential oil if we are looking for some flavour.
Our bodies will work better, our brains will be more focused, our emotions more balanced if we remember to stay hydrated. It is well worth the effort.
Tips for drinking more water:
Have a water bottle handy and takes small sips frequently,
Have a water bottle beside your bed, one in the car, make sure they are topped up and sip from them often.
When outside, especially in the warm weather, take your water bottle and drink and top it up regularly.
Little sips like this add up and soon you will find yourself more hydrated, more focused, more energy, better sleep, less moody.
Essential Education #5 – Fresh is best
Our bodies, our minds and emotions work best when we provide them with the right kind of nourishment. There is nothing wrong with an occasional treat but as a rule we should be making sure we have a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables each day.
This doesn’t have to be a daunting, life changing thing. Here are a couple of examples of how simple this can be.
#One piece of fruit instead of that cake, slice or biscuit at break time
#Add some fruit (tinned is okay if you prefer, but not ideal) to cereal or at night if you are craving dessert
#Make a banana or berry smoothie or add banana or berries to cereal
#a piece of watermelon after lunch
#if you have a juicer – one apple, pear, carrot, cucumber, tomato etc as a morning drink
#add lettuce and tomato to your burger
#add carrots, corn and broccoli to your meat and potatoes
Baby steps, one change at a time and our bodies will thank us
