Yesterday, in one of the summer thunder storms, we had a blackout. It lasted for a little under three hours and it got me thinking. Everyone all in a tizz that they couldn’t cook, watch tv, play of the computer or other media device. Petrol stations, shops and restaurants unable to process sales as everything is linked to computers and therefore power.
A good friend suggested board games or card games which I thought an awesome idea. Other possibilities to while away the time, unless it is dark that is, playing guitar, gardening, writing Christmas cards, letters etc, reading, jigsaw puzzles, tidying, cleaning or sitting on the verandah watching the world go by. Pete, awesome that he is, cooked our chicken kebabs on the BBQ and boiled water in a saucepan so I could have a cuppa, while I sorted some things for the market stall and found the Christmas wrapping paper.
Here is a thought, I think each of us should book in a three hour, or more block, say once a month, to spend time away from anything electrical. What are your thoughts? How easy or difficult would that be for you? I acknowledge I probably wont remember to do this, but I will try. How long can you go without looking at, touching or relying on something electronic during the day?
