Balance and Elevation, the names of two of the essential oils in Doterra’s Mood Management kit got me thinking. These two words pretty much sum up life for me at this point in my life. In the past, I lived pretty much a fight or flight existence where challenges daily meant it was difficult to see past the current difficulties to peace and tranquillity. I fought every day to gain and keep some balance, to ground myself so I didn’t get sick, so I could be mum to my kids. The elevation concept didn’t even get a look in.
One thing I tried to instil in my children was the concept of gratitude. It didn’t matter how tough life would get, if before we went to bed, we spent some time thanking God, the universe, Mother Nature, whichever higher being we held on to, for the good in our day, then there was hope. To me, if I could show them how to balance the crap with the good – good food, good warm bed to sleep in etc, then it would go some way to ground them throughout their lives.
Being balanced, or grounded is a concept through Reiki, crystal therapy and chakra healing. It’s about keeping balanced, centred, grounded; body, mind and spirit despite what life might decide to present us with. It is not always easy to keep this perspective. For me, always, it is easier to capture this concept outside, the ground beneath my feet, looking out over an ocean, walking along a beach, out in the bush, tending my garden. Hugs from each of my children would remind me of that sense of balance and calmness, finding our place in the universe. It’s about being happy and content in our own skin.
All through the turmoil, when I lost my family, my determination to see past the present to a future where my children would once again be in my life, pushed my determination to keep finding that balance, the groundedness of being outside with nature. I studied chakras, crystals and Reiki, naturopathy and aromatherapy. I released my traditional Catholic upbringing because for me it didn’t make any sense that I could hold true to all the values and morals and still end up where I did. The alternate therapies and spirituality made sense. The study of otherworldly healing, the oneness with the universe and how we fitted as one small yet important part of an eternal picture with multi existences over time resonated. Whatever it is for us, that is the reminder that makes sense, that is the key. What method we use to find that balance (as long as it isn’t harmful) isn’t as important as the fact that it allows us to find peace and healing before dis ease sets in.
The healing that comes when we forgive ourselves for not being perfect, for not being able to fix it all, that is part of what balance and groundedness achieves. Not being stuck in remorse and regret, moving past those emotions to the understanding that we are creating our own life, by what we focus on and think about. Being grateful for absolutely everything. Not just the everything we already have but for the everything we want. The spending time outside, the finding who we are, the being creative, finding our creative selves, are all ways to combat the negativity of loss. Loss of family, of home, of job or vocation.
Balance I have worked hard at achieving, maintaining, keeping, sharing for a few years now. Elevation, now this is a very different and exciting concept. To me elevation is elevation of emotions, spirit and sense of self. It is about the sense of gratitude, appreciation of and excitement for everything that is good. It is about making a conscious effort to raise our energies and our vibration above the dramas, the stress the mundane, to where we would like our spirit to be. For some people this is easy for others not so much. I am still learning and practicing this myself.
One thing I have discovered, that aids not only in finding balance but also in elevating our spirits and emotions is something tangible, like a sunset, a plant, the beach, or if you are inside, a crystal, candle or essential oils, or combinations of both and both inside and outside depending on where you are.
Which brings me back to the names of these two essential oils I have in front of me – Balance and Elevation. They are the two oils in my Be Calm roller blend. They are the two oils that find their way into our diffuser a few times a week. They are the two oils that I have heard from others, that really help support their emotional and mental well being on a daily basis.
Our journey is ongoing, we dont reach a place where we no longer learn or grow. Using our initiative, our intuition, making healthy choices, we keep focus, we keep positive. Balance and elevation.
