Not to be over philosophical, but thinking about what to write about, when I haven’t written any new chapters to this blog for quite a while. I don’t want to repeat myself and cover old ground I have already covered. Nor do I want to preach, or whinge or moan or write stuff I have written before, that you have read before.
This year as I approach what I call a fairly significant birthday, my focus is on what I want to achieve in the future. Sure, I have made mistakes. I have said and done things I wish I could change, turned left instead of right. That doesn’t make me good or bad, just human. Regrets won’t change anything. What I have discovered, fairly late in life, is that focus is important. We can choose to focus on what we have or have not done, the bad and the ugly and then are surprised when we get more of the same, or we can focus instead on what we do want to achieve. It isn’t always easy to change habits. So when we decide to now focus on the good we want in our life, the good health, the love, joy, positive relationships, abundance and prosperity; it is not surprising to find ourselves occasionally thinking about the opposite. Old habits though can be broken and replaced with positive thoughts. It just takes determination and an awareness of what we are thinking about, how we are acting and making sure that what we are thinking and how we are acting aligns with what it is we want to achieve.
We can’t change a broken relationship by focusing on why it is broken. If we keep dwelling on what went wrong, or why it isn’t working, this is what we will continue to get in this relationship. If we believe in miracles and believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that this relationship can be fixed, repaired and renegotiated, then the universe will work with us to make sure this will be true.
With our health, if aches and pains are the focus of our day, how much it hurts, how annoying it is, the aches and pains will continue. That’s not to say don’t go to the doctor or treat the aches and pains, but don’t dwell on the problem. When we dwell on something we bring more of it into our lives.
The same with wealth, money assets and abundance. If we dwell on what we don’t have, the universe will give us more of the same, a lack of abundance. If we focus on having abundance, what it looks and feels like, we soon begin to notice positive things in our lives. When we acknowledge and are grateful for the positive, no matter how small, we bring more of the same into our lives.
None of this is new teaching. We have all read about these truths, I have written about this before. I have shared stories about how this way of thinking and acting has produced amazingly positive results in my life. I have also written about how we all get caught up in the day to day existence and forget to focus, or rather forget to change and maintain our focus on what we want to achieve. Then when we have time to stop and reflect we realise how much time has lapse since we focused on our goals, since we have taken action steps towards our goals.
If we want to see changes in our lives, with our health, our work, our relationships, we can make the change, or at least work towards the change we want. My example is my goal to establish a business out where we live, so that long term we don’t have to drive into Canberra each day for work. This is a long term goal. For now, travelling to Canberra works, and it allows us to get our home and garden set up the way we want to. My natural therapies healing business that I have been planning to some extent for many years, will be a reality. For now, I take small action steps, maybe not each day but at least each week. I work through my business plan; I work out what I want the business to look like, how it will be set up. I believe I will achieve it. I share ideas for alternate healing with others. I read and study, I learn and share with others.
I wish I had this wisdom when I was younger, but that’s the thing with wisdom, in many cases it doesn’t present itself until we are older (and wiser). Also, while we may think that if we had this wisdom earlier, life would be different, I would have made different decisions, that’s kind of the point. If we had made different decisions we wouldn’t be where we are today. While there are decisions that I would have made differently, aimed for a different outcome; if I had then I wouldn’t be here, right now, loving every single part of my life. So the minor parts of my life that I would like to change, mend, repair, now that I am stronger, wiser, older, I am even more determined to focus on and achieve my goals.
My wish for my children (apart from my wish for them to reconnect with me) and everyone I know and love, is that they too find this wisdom, this ability to find their way in life, to be happy with who they are. That for those parts of their lives they are not so happy with, that they can focus on and make the changes.
For me, I have always been drawn towards alternate natural healing modalities – Reiki energy healing, crystal and chakra healing, and now essential oils and how they can help support ourselves and our families. For whatever reason I have also been drawn towards sharing my knowledge with others. While I tend to get side-tracked, perfect example is how long it has been between my blogs, I am aiming to refocus my attention and energies on sharing with others, connecting with others, teaching and guiding others and maintaining meaningful relationships with those I love and care about.
If you only take away one insight from this blog, it is focus – focus on the positive, notice the small wins, and celebrate each one. Oh and never give up on your dreams!
