I think we all struggle with focus from time to time. We all know that to manifest our desires, to set our intentions, to call on all good things in the universe, we have to be clear so that the universe knows what we want. We also know that when we focus on the negative and what we don’t want, guess what – yes that’s right, the universe tends to give us what we focus on. For hypersensitive, empaths this can be tricky. While we know and practice the positive focus and manifesting our desires as much as possible, there is also the tendency to be ‘caught’ by others feelings and emotions.

Like with any skill or activity, the more we practice, the better we get at doing it. The more we practice the more it becomes second nature. If we practice enough, when we are confronted by something, others opinions, a bad day, something negative, we should be able to get through the road block by regaining our focus. With most challenges, negative or bad occurrence, our flight or fight mode will kick in. Whatever trick we have used in the past to deal with such adversity, we will most likely revert to it. For some this is running away and hiding under the blankets (literally or figuratively) yelling and screaming, binge eating, binge drinking, drugs …add your own crutch here. We may revert to whatever it was our parents or significant family members did (probably one of those in the list above). When we practice focusing on what we want, manifesting only good and positive we are retraining our brain. Hopefully we retrain our brain enough so that when we encounter something negative, we can quickly refocus back to the positive.

Yesterday I attended an essential oils workshop. The presenter showed us EFT Tapping. The EFT stands for emotional freedom technique. I like the concept, that this tapping technique can retrain and focus us so that we remember and know the positive and not just the negative. I wont try to explain this technique, but if you google EFT tapping you should find some examples on youtube. Clapping, mantras, meditation can also be used to reinforce our focus. Music, words, candles, crystals, and yes, essential oils also help us reinforce, and remember to focus, on our focus.

I will give you an example. I wanted to buy my own house. Somewhere out of town where I could grow lots of fruit and vegetables and herbs. Somewhere where I could create my candles, share Reiki, angel cards, oils etc with everyone. Somewhere where I could write, somewhere that is mine. In the past every time I got close to believing this could happen, there was some drama, some huge bill that needed to be paid, or someone telling me how ridiculous this was, that I didn’t really want that, I didn’t deserve it, I couldn’t have it. So, for years, as I was focusing on all this ‘interference’ from outside, worrying about so many things I couldn’t change, I ever could quite get the deposit together to achieve my dream, my goal. Something happened each time I got close that required my attention. I read so many books about how to manifest the positive, yet kept getting caught in the drama and the negative. Then, around twelve months ago, I changed my focus, or should I say I kept my focus. Some people thought I became harsh and uncaring, as I was no longer there for them all of the time. I no longer gave money at everyone’s whim. Here I am twelve months later, in my own little home, with many plans for the garden and all the things I want to create and share.

I know others who have similar stories. Whether we call it visualisation, manifesting our desires, or setting our intentions, be clear, focus on what we want. If we aren’t clear, if we change our minds, the universe isn’t sure what we want. I am not perfect at this, no one is. There is still so much I want to manifest, and focus on. There are still times when I get caught up in worries, dramas, problems and issues. I am going to keep practicing, and believe in all good and positive in my life. What are you going to choose to focus on next?
